Journey into You – The Self 比肩 (“Bi Jian”)

The question that always seems to stumble mankind, is the question of who am I? As we advance through the technological age, we have devised many ways to understand the things that are happening around us. However, for as much as we have achieved, ironically, we seem to have the least understanding about ourselves.

Do we often ask questions such as what should I do? What am I destined for? What am I good at? What is my Journey? If we truly understand ourselves, we wouldn’t question our functionality.

At times, we associate ourselves with the work, people, or material that is external of us, and think of that as our part of our being. The truth is, how can things/objects/people that are external of us be a part of us? Will these external things reduce our lifeforce if they cease to exist?

The Self 比肩 (“Bi Jian”) star is one of the most enigmatic stars of the 10 stars in the Bazi system. It talks about the subject of ourselves. It is the element that represents us in the entirety of the whole Bazi system. The literal Chinese translation of the star refers to friends, buddies, or companions. However, its true meaning goes way deeper beyond that. As this star shares the same element with the Day Master (“The main reference focus of a chart”), it holds the secret and meaning to who we are.

A person with a dominant Self 比肩 (“Bi Jian”) structure often puts themself as the center of focus. They often share their views and opinions with others. They are people who have their perspective upon anything that is happening around them. Oftentimes, people would look up to them as they prove a point that resonates with the people around them. Traditionally, they are known as “Identity (相)”.

They are well suited to deal with people and to give their opinions. Self-structure people are usually well suited to make deals and collaboration with others. They are usually good negotiators and work well in lines that require a lot of communication. They like to connect people and are usually compassionate. They work well in areas of sales, counseling, PR, HR, or social engagement.

On the flip side, a person with 比肩 (“Bi Jian”) structure can sometimes be overconfident, egoist and narcissist. They do this because of their inner insecurity. Hidden deep within, they question themself. Portrait of a strong external shell is their defensive move to hide their vulnerable inner world.

A notable person with the 比肩 (“Bi Jian”) structure includes Donald Trump (President of USA), Rupert Murdoch(US Media), Richard Branson (Virgin Air).
