Only the toughest get going – Attainment 6
Just recently, Malaysia has released the permits to re-open night street markets ever since the COVID lockdown. I was so delighted as I used to frequent night street markets for street food every week.
Of the many street foods available in Malaysia’s night street markets, the one I like most is the mobile steamboat snacks on sticks!! (“lok lok”). I quickly paid a visit to my frequent old “Uncle” mobile street food cart and found him opened! YEAH!!
While savoring, I had a quick chat with the old “Uncle”. “Times are tough,” he said. “Even after the re-open, there are not as many people willing to spend.” The lockdown has put him on halt for 3 whole months. (This night market used to be one of the busiest in town where people walked within brushing shoulder to shoulder.)
He told me he had to learn and do something else which he is highly unfamiliar with. It was tough for him as he was operating “lok lok” for all his life. I asked him what pushed him to persist. He said, “马死落地行 (When the horse dies, step down and walk), there are mouth to feed and families to take care.” He then continues on his work.
When your reason is strong enough, you will fight the toughest battle, no matter the circumstances, no matter the obstacles.
