Reignite Your Flame. Stay Relevant.
In a few weeks, Malaysia will reopen its schools after more than three months of lock-down. Many retail and food outlets around my usual work area have suddenly resumed operation despite previously hanging “For Rent” and “For Sales” banners during the lock-down.
It seems like things have taken a turn for the better with people having high hopes on this upcoming reopening. This is certainly great news!
However, many ask me if this is a sign of recovery and would there be a “second/third wave”?
Reading between the lines, I think what people wanted to know is: “How can we stay relevant in such uncertain times?”
Staying relevant requires us to take a look at both the current market’s needs and pivot our service according to these latest needs. Those who continue to stick to the old ways in hopes that the good old times will come back may be disappointed to know that the old bonfire has burned out. The uncertain times no longer play kind to shenanigans and only the necessities survive.
How can we become the “NEW” relevant?
It requires us to take a step back and re-look at how we could reignite a new flame.
Ask yourself these questions below:
- In what ways does my work impact my company?
- What if I stop doing what I do, what would happen to my department/company?
- If I quit today, will my company get nervous or happily show me the exit?
- Is my product helping people immediately or does it only benefit the long run?
- What if people do not buy my products/services, in what ways will they lose out?
- Is my service/product propelling others forward or is it just a mere good to have?
- What if all my answers to the above question are a negative one??!!??
- Are there any things I could learn to do quickly to bring a positive impact??
Answering these questions truthfully allows us to reflect upon our situation and make necessary adjustments to understand, learn, and take actions quickly in order to stay relevant.
